Janice L. Olli (“Ann Maloney”), 79 a resident of Lake View Manor in Hancock passed away November 8, 2017 in her home.

She was born on March 26, 1938 in Hancock a daughter of the late Ernie and Zelda (Laitanen) Peryam. Jan was raised in Hancock and was a graduate of the Hancock High School with the class of 1956.

On February 4, 1962, she was united in marriage to Paul Olli. The couple resided in Hubbell. On June 25, 1970 Paul preceded Jan in death.

Jan Olli had worked for her father at Ernie’s Bakery, the Kaleva Restaurant and Gino’s Restaurant. Jan is a member of S.S. Peter & Paul Lutheran Church of Houghton. She attended services at the Salvation Army in Hancock and was a Soldier of the Salvation Army. She believed the best part of her life was accepting Jesus Christ as her Savior. She was strong Christian, never faltering in her beliefs.

Jan was a volunteer at Ryan School, reading to the Head Start class. She baked for several organizations she believed in or was involved with. She was very compassionate. She visited the sick. She visited nursing homes and made scrapbooks for the people there. She was very devoted to her family and friends, helping them whenever she could. Jan gave her kidney to her brother to extend his life. She made a big difference in all those that she touched.

Jan was a very hard worker. One time she dug out a basement with an ax and shovel, hauling bucket after bucket up the stairs until the job was done. She has a good sense of humor and was game for anything! She could laugh at herself and she could make others laugh by her antics. She was a real character! She went by several nicknames:  Auntie Flake, Tangerine, the Old Mule, Auntie Flame, and Ann Maloney. She was a storybook Aunt and she was a very excellent storyteller. She could convince both children and adults that Santa Clause existed and you wouldn’t doubt her at all!  She was very adventurous as an adult. She pitched at baseball games with her family, climbed the cliffs to waterfalls, hiked and kayaked, ice-skated and roller-skated; fished, swam and butt surfed. She loved the outdoors and nature; she would be out there in heaviest snowstorms and the strongest winds! She liked seeing Lake Superior in all the seasons and in all its glory, and hearing the foghorn. She very into the holidays, dressing for Halloween, St. Patrick’s Day, the 4th of July—never losing the kid in herself. She would let the kids pour a bucket of water over her head on a hot day; she was a kid’s dream; she was FUN! She was the life our family. She liked Copper Harbor, picking berries, making jam and bakery, pretty paper, stickers, and writing letters. She liked reading, photography, baking, and walking. She was a published poet. She loved her cats.

Preceding her in death were her spouse; her parents; her brothers Darrell, Terry, and Leonard Cecil; her sister Dorothy Sutinen; and a niece Shelly (Lahti) Kolosky.

She is survived by her daughter, Faye McGee of Traverse City, MI and a stepson, Robert Olli; a sister Zil Peryam of Hancock, MI; a special cousin David (Darlene) Peryam of Rockwood, MI; her nieces Tracy (Ron) Jaehnig of Houghton, MI; Amy (Al) Webber of Hubertus, WI; Angie (Deano) Pellegrini of  Anderson, SC; and Lisa (Richard) Quinones of Navarre, FL; her nephews Ernie Sutinen of Calumet, MI and Paul Sutinen of Lake Linden, MI; several cousins;  several great nieces and nephews; several great great nieces and nephews; several friends; and a very good friend Debbie Bean and Tommie from Lakeview Manor.
