MaeBelle J. Schmitz, 80, a resident of Hancock passed away Friday, June 1, 2018, at the Omega House in Houghton.
She was born on January 26, 1938, in Park Rapids, MN, a daughter of the late Paul and Almeda (Youmans) Thompson. She was a graduate of the Park Rapids High School with the class of 1956. She then attended Bemidji State College and Soumis College receiving an Associate of Commerce Degree.
MaeBelle had worked for Soumi College in the Housekeeping Department, Pamida in Houghton, and as a desk clerk for the Budget Host Inn. She also was active locally with FOE Aerie #382 of Hancock holding various offices with the group. She also was an avid bowler for many years and was a past Secretary for the Copper Country Women’s Bowling Association for 30 years.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her sister Pauline Sarbaum.

Mark Schmitz of Kearsarge, MI
6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Her brother: John (Kathy) Thompson of Park Rapids, MN
Several nieces, nephews and cousins.
