Agnes "Dolly" Karkkainen, 96 a former resident of Freda and the Arbor Green Senior Living Community passed away Friday, February 14, 2025, at Canal View - Houghton County where she had been a resident patient for the past six years.

She was born on October 19, 1928, in Beacon Hill, MI, a daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Peuhkurinen) Nissen. Agnes was raised in the Beacon Hill area and was a graduate of Houghton High School and Soumi College.

Dolly was united in marriage to Arnold Karkkainen on August 28, 1950. The couple resided most of their life in Freda while raising their family. On January 9, 2001, Arne preceded Dolly in death.

Mrs. Karkkainen enjoyed playing bingo, playing cards with family and friends, making jam, and baking bread.

Also preceding her in death were her son-in-law: Robert Mantta, along with 9 brothers and sisters.

Surviving are: Her children: Steven (Sally) Karkkainen of L'Anse, Arne (Jill) Karkkainen of Coles Creek, Elin Mantta of Obenhoff, Ann (Kurt) Schultz of Champion, Susan (Robert Wilson) Campbell of Coles Creek. Her grandchildren: Lisa, Daniel, Leah, Matthew, LeeAnn, Joshua, Jesse, Elizabeth, James, Sienna, and Seth. Her great-grandchildren: Tyler, Hannah & Madisyn; Her sister: Edwina (Kenneth) Wright of Casper, WY

A Funeral Service for Dolly will be held at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service - Hancock Chapel with Rev. Brahm Semmler Smith to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Liminga Cemetery.

Friends may call on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, from 1:00 until time of services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service - Hancock Chapel.
