Aili Ropponen

Obituary of Aili Esther Ropponen Houghton Aili E. Ropponen, 91, a resident of Houghton and former Painesdale resident passed away Wednesday October 1, 2008 at the Portage Hospital where she had been a patient for the past 2 weeks. She was born on April 4, 1917, in Dodgeville a daughter of the late Henry and Amanda (Vierimaa) Lillstrang. Aili was a graduate of the Houghton High School with the class of 1934. Mrs. Ropponen had resided for most of her life in Painesdale moving in 1989 to Houghton to make her home at the Heritage Manor Apartments. During the war years Aili moved to the Detroit area for a short time where she worked in a defense palnt she also worked with the NYA & WPA programs during the depression era. On June 28, 1947 she was united in marriage to Armas H. Ropponen and he preceded her in death on January 17, 1971. Mrs. Ropponen was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of South Range and Dr. Percy Wilson D.A.V. # Auxiliary of Chassell. Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents and a brother John. Surviving are: Her son: David (Carolyn) Ropponen of Clinton Twp., MI Her grandchildren: Aimee (David) Bowers and Jeffrey (Sandra) Ropponen Her Great Grandson: David Bowers Her niece: Carole Scrivo Funeral services for Aili will be held 11 am Tuesday October 7, 2008, at Grace Lutheran Church of South Range with Licensed Lay Minister Nicholas Hopman to officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. View Cemetery of South Range. Friends may call on Monday October 6, 2008, from 4 to 8 pm at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock and on Tuesday from 10 am until time of services at the church.
