Obituary of Albert William Riutta Portage Township Albert W. Riutta, 83, a resident of Haapapuro Rd., Portage Township. passed away Thursday morning June 29, 2006, at the Marquette General Hospital following a brief illness. He was born on November 20, 1922, in Painesdale, a son of the late Wilhard and Naimi (Kurula) Riutta. As a child Art moved to Winona then to Hancock where he graduated from the Hancock High School, Mr. Riutta was also a graduate of the Chicago Art Institute in Chicago, IL. Albert had worked as a commercial artist first in Duluth, MN, while he worked for Marshall Wells Company and then in Two Rivers, WI, for Paragone Electric. For over the past 30 years Mr. Riutta had made his home on the Haapapuro Rd. in Portage Township. Locally Albert had worked for the Houghton County Road Commission. Albert was a veteran having served in the United State's Army with the Military Police in the European Theater during World War II. Albert was a talented award wining artist through out his life first receiving recognition in high school for his skill making furniture and artwork. Mr. Riutta was a member of the Chassell Apostolic Lutheran Church and Ranger Post #6165 V.F.W. of South Range. Also preceding him in death were 2 brothers: Reuben and Ernest. Surviving are: 2 Sisters: Helen (Wilho) Knuuti of Neenah, WI Gertrude (Melvin) Maatta of South Range 3 Brothers: Wesley (Ruth) Riutta of Kenosha, WI John Riutta of Baraga Wallace (Gloria) Riutta of Chassell Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins Funeral Services for Albert will be held 11 A.M. Thursday July 6, 2006, in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with James Johnson to officiate. Burial will be in the Oskar Cemetery where Ranger Post # 6165 V.F.W. of South Range will hold Military rites. Friends may call on Thursday from 10 A.M. until time of services at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials may be given to the charity of ones choice.
