Alvin Joseph Gebeau

Alvin Joseph Gebeau, 89, entered eternal life with his Lord Monday, March 6, 2023, in an assisted living facility in Marquette, MI.  He was a former resident of Twin Lakes in Upper Michigan.

Alvin, known better as Al to family and friends, was born June 17, 1933, in Ontonagon, Michigan.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Ethel Gebeau and sister, Jeanette, of Ontonagon, MI.  Al and his wife Janice spent part of their time in Twin Lakes at their cottage and the remainder of their time in Odessa, FL.

Al graduated from Ontonagon High School, class of 1951, and then he enlisted in the Navy in 1952, serving four active years in Panama.  After he served his country, he enrolled at Michigan Tech University in 1956 and graduated in 1960 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering.  He met and married Janice (Aho) during this time on August 8, 1959.  He began his career with Great Lakes Steel, moving to Ford Motor Company in 1963.  In 1970 he earned his MBA from the University of Detroit.  He retired as engineering Manager after 32 years with Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI.  He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock, SAE, Masons, Michigan Tech President’s Society and is a former scout master.  In his retirement years, Al and Janice loved to travel, going on tours throughout the US Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zeeland and the Caribbean.  He was able to fulfill his lifetime dream by going to Scotland and golfing at St. Andrews, and other surrounding courses.

Al is survived by his wife Janice, and by his two children: Paul of Burbank, CA, and Janelle (Matthew) of Jackson, MI; his four grandchildren: Lucas, Amelia, Jillian, and Brandi (living in Kalamazoo, MI); his three brothers: Arthur of Milan, New Mexico, Ronald (Susie) of West Lawn, PA, Norman (Roslyn) of Menominee, MI and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was very involved with his children throughout their lives.  Al was active with Paul in scouting and Janelle’s sport of ice skating.

Services for Al will be held 12:00 noon Wednesday August 2, 2023, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock with Rev. Brahm Semmler Smith to officiate.  Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock.

Friends may call on Wednesday August 2, 2023, from 11:00 am until time of services at Gloria Deil Lutheran Church of Hancock.
