Obituary of Ann Messner Houghton/Portage EntryAnn E. "Betsy" Messner, 92, a resident of the Bluffs Senior Living Community and formerly of Portage Entry, passed away Saturday evening December 17, 2011, at the Aspirius Keweenaw Hospital following a short illness.She was born on August 26, 1919, in DePere, WI, a daughter of the late Francis and Anna (Kettenhofen) Flynn. Ann was raised in Green Bay and graduated from Green Bay East High School.On November 26, 1942 she was united in marriage to Michael Messner. The couple had resided in Houghton for thirty years prior to moving to Portage Entry in 1978 . On April 26, 1994, Michael preceded Betsy in death. For the past six years, she has made her home at the Bluffs Senior Living Community in Houghton.Mrs. Messner was a former member of St. Anne's Catholic Church of Chassell and presently a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church of Houghton. Betsy loved to play golf and was a member of the Portage Lake Golf Club for over forty years. She was also proud to have been a member of the Miscowaubik Club for over seventy years and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, often answering to Assistant Coach of the Green Bay Packers.Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents and six brothers and sisters.Surviving are:Her children: Michael Messner III of Portage EntrySally (Clarence) Ehlers of Valparaiso, INHer grandchildren: Michael (Stacey) Messner IV, Sara Ehlers, Margaret (Jonathan) Savoy, and Anne (David) BeyersHer brother: Francis "Bud" (Joyce) Flynn of Green Bay, WINumerous nieces and nephewsA Mass of Christian burial for Ann will be held 11 am Thursday December 22, 2011, at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church of Houghton with Fr. John Martignon to celebrate. Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton.Friends may call on Thursday December 22, 2011, at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church from 10 am until time of services.
