Obituary of Ardell A. Jurmu HANCOCK Ardell A. Jurmu, 81, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Portage Health in Hancock. He was born on July 5, 1927 in Mohawk, a son to John A. and Ina (Heltunen) Jurmu and moved to Detroit at a young age. Ardell graduated from Highland Park High School, Highland Park Junior College and Suomi College in Hancock. He was a Veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Army Air Force in Okinawa, Japan. On August 20, 1949 he married Ruth Poyhonen in Hancock, where they have made their home since. Ardell worked at the Upper Pennisula Power Company for 37 years retiring as a supervisor in the Accounting Department. He was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Houghton. Preceding him in death were his parents, John & Ina Jurmu, father and mother-in-law, Oscar and Mina Poyhonen, a sister, Verneda Paavola, a granddaughter, Rebecca Parks. Surviving are: His beloved wife, Ruth, 6 children: Kathleen and Joe Asiala of South Range, Karen and Jim Randell, Ann and Delmar Rautiola all of Atlantic Mine, Mary and Calvin Honkala of Ishpeming, Michael and Chris Jurmu of Liminga, Beth and Warren Parks of Howell. Also surviving are 55 dear grandchildren, 68 great grandchildren, numerous brother-sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the First Apostolic Lutheran Church on Sharon Ave. in Houghton with pastor, Richard Eskola Officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, Sept. 29, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church and one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.
