Obituary of Arthur Fredrick DeMars HoughtonArthur F. DeMars, 87, a resident of Houghton passed away Saturday March 4, 2017, at the Light House in Hancock where he had been a patent for the past day.He was born on May 13, 1929, in Houghton, a son of the late Arthur J. and Carrie (Spearman) DeMars. Arthur attended the St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic School until having to work with his father painting. He then worked for the Atlas Powder Company in Dollar Bay and retired in 1991, from Gunlach Contracting where he had worked as a welder.On April 7, 1951, he was united in marriage to the former Jean Kolehmainen. The couple had resided in Houghton and Superior Location where they raised four children. Since 2003 they had made their home in Houghton. On May 15, 2008, Jean preceded Art in death.Mr. DeMars was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Houghton, he also was active with the Doelle Senior Citizens. Art enjoyed fishing, hunting, hobby farming and spending time with family and friends. He was a kind loving generous man that made many friends easily, his good natured humor made it easy for him to make many friends.Also preceding him in death was a sister Pearl DeMars.Surviving are:His children: Mark DeMars of Jose, CAMichele (James) Sober of Carbondale, COMarcia (Ronald) Froh of Wildwood, MSJason (Sue) DeMars of Madison, WIHis grandchildren: Shawn (Stacey) Preston of Plam Bay, FLJesse Froh of St. Louis, MSJustin Froh of Carbondale, CONeil (Amy)Sober of Glenwood Springs, CORyan (Leia) Sober of Silt, COHis great grandchildren: Annibelle, Carter & Hunter Preston, Emily, Enya, Eli, Loakin & Ethan SoberHis brother: James (Betty) DeMars of Neenah, WINumerous nieces, nephews and cousins.Funeral services for Art will be held 12:00 pm Thursday March 9, 2017, at Peace Lutheran Church of Houghton with Rev. Glenn Schwanke to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton. Friends may call on Thursday March 9, 2017, from 10 am until time of services at the church.
