Obituary of Arthur August Maki Hancock Arthur A. Maki, 86, a resident of N. Lincoln Dr., Hancock, passed away Saturday morning November 24, 2007, at the Omega House in Houghton where he had been a resident for the past two weeks. He was born on October 14, 1921, in Paavola a son of the late August and Hilja (Kemppainen) Maki. As a child he moved with his family to the Mason Hill Area where he resided until moving to N. Lincoln dr. in Hancock in 1950. Art attended the Arcadian and the Dollar Bay Schools. Mr. Maki was a veteran having served in the United States Army as a M.P. on the Alaskan Highway during World War II. On October 7, 1950, he was united in marriage to the former Mildred Anderson. Art was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock and was active with the Soumi Kerho. Mr. Maki had worked for the Quincy Mining Company and for Upper Peninsula Power Company retiring in 1986. Preceding him in death were his parents and 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Surviving are: his wife Mildred of Hancock His sons: Roger (Debra) Maki of Mason Hill Kenneth (Kimberly) Maki of Houghton 9 Grandchildren: Kurt (Jessica) Maki, Kevin (Jessica) Maki, Kylene (Robert) Gilles, Konnie (Nic) Bonini, Karl Maki, Kiira Maki, Jessica Maki, Jeffery Maki, Jennifer Maki. 12 Great Grandchildren His Brothers: Wesley (Mildred) Maki of Hancock Walter (Ruth) Maki of Hancock Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services for Art will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday November 28, 2007, in the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock with Rev. Jimalee Jones and Licensed Lay Minister Clay Hilman to officiate. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock. Friends may call on Tuesday November 27, 2007, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock where the Copper Country Veterans Association will perform military rites at 8 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of services.
