Obituary of Aulis Laakso Houghton Aulis O. "Auly" Laakso, 90, a resident of the Paradise Rd., Houghton, passed away Sunday evening December 23, 2007, at the Portage Hospital where he had been a patient for the past two weeks. He was born on February 15, 1917, in Baltic, MI, a son of the late Eric and Hilda (Porkka) Laakso. As a child he moved to the Detroit area with his family where he graduated from Cass Tech High School. Mr. Laakso was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton. He had worked as a Truck Driver for Clairmont. Preceding him in death were his parents, a son Edward Laakso; his granddaughter Elizabeth Bekkala, his brother, Helge; and his sister Milma. Surviving are: His Wife: Katherine Laakso of Houghton His Children: Sarah (John) Bekkala of Chassell Ronald Laakso of Livonia John (Karen) Laakso of Canton, Georgia Mary Parske of Kasilof, Alaska 17 Grandchildren and 29 Great Grandchildren His Sister: Mae Hovinen of Brutus, MI Several nieces & nephews Funeral Services for Auly will be held 6 pm. Thursday December 27, 2007, in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Richard Eskola to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton. Friends may call on Thursday December 27, 2007, in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock from 5 p.m. until time of services.
