Obituary of Aune Lahnala Atlantic Mine Aune K. Lahnala, 92, a former resident of Atlantic Mine, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2011, at cypress manor where she had been a resident patient since August 2009. Aune was born on June 15, 1919, in Liminga to Matt and Louisa (Olli) Luoma. She attended the Heinola school. She was married to Edward Lahnala on July 24, 1947. They resided in Liminga, South Range and Atlantic Mine prior to both of them being resident patients of Cypress Manor in 2009. Edward (Eppie) preceded her in death on December 6, 2009. She was a member of the Liminga and Atlantic Mine congregations of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church. Visitors often found her building puzzles, knitting or doing search a word books. She enjoyed her afternoon cup of coffee and korpuu. She looked forward to visits from her family and many friends and relatives especially a special niece Sally Rule who visited her weekly. She was known as "old grandma" and "farm grandma" to her great grandchildren. She is survived by a son Erland (Barbara) Lahnala of Atlantic Mine; two daughters Beatrice Lahti of Mohawk and Laura (Hartley) Collins of Liminga and a son-in-law Ernie Kuusisto of Jacobsville. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; two sisters-in-law, Mercedes Luoma and Elsie Luoma; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding her in death was her husband Edward, an infant son Wallace; and infant daughter Sandra, her daughter Phyllis Kuusisto, her brothers Matt, Abraham, Adolph, and Aaron; sister, Hilda Niemi, Hulda Asumaa, Edna Luttinen, Julia Kemppainen and Saima North; a son-in-law Bill Lahti, a grandson Dan Lahti, a granddaughter Karen Sue Kuusisto and two great grandsons Roman Tapio and Collin Erkkila. Funeral services for Aune will be held 11 am Monday November 14, 2011, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with Richard Eskola to officiate. Burial will be in the Liminga Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday November 13, 2011, from4 to 8 pm at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock and on Monday from 10 am until time of services at the church. The family greatly appreciated the loving care from the staff at Cypress Manor and Dr. Audrey Liston for her many years of compassionate care of Aune.
