Obituary of Barbara Kettenbeil BARBARA J. (BARBIE) KETTENBEILHANCOCK: Barbara J. (Barbie) Kettenbeil, age 49, died at Winona House at Portage Pointe Sunday evening, November 1, All Saints Day, 2009, just a few days short of her fiftieth birthday.She was born on December 6, 1959, in Hancock, a daughter of Marian Kettenbeil and the late Bruce B. Kettenbeil.After the family moved from Dollar Bay to Kalamazoo, Michigan, she attended the John F. Kennedy Center for seven years. When the family returned to the Copper Country, she attended the ISD Learning Center in Hancock for fourteen years. Barbie loved the dances, proms, and Special Olympics. She was a member of Church of the Resurrection.Barbie touched many lives. Our slogan became, "to know Barbara is to love her." She had exceptional emotional intelligence and her caring nature, ready smile, hearty laugh, and appreciation of fun activities and humor naturally drew people into her circle. She loved travel, dancing, music, bingo, parties, festivities, and holiday dinners with friends and family. Everyone knew she was an avid Packer fan. Barbie was always good at bowling, and during the last year of her life, she became especially adept at wii bowling.Preceding her in death twenty-five years ago was her father, Bruce B. Kettenbeil.Surviving are her mother, Marian V. Kettenbeil of Arbor Green in Houghton, sister Mary Lee (John) Mikkola of Hancock and their daughter Laura (Chris) Norris of San Jose, CA, and their children Avery, Christian, Matthew and Zachary and their son, John O. (Christine) Mikkola of Amherst NH, and their children, Jack, Ethan, and Grace; sister Anne Kettenbeil and her companion, Solange Arsenault, of Montreal, and her daughter, Marianne Kettenbeil-Cote, of Montreal; brother Peter (Nicole Beaupre) Kettenbeil of Montreal and his daughters, Sophie Kettenbeil, her son Nathan, and Sarah Kettenbeil, as well as their mother, Micheline Kettenbeil who was very dear to Barbara; brother Daniel (Sherry) Kettenbeil and their daughter, Ashley, of Kalamazoo; and brother William (Holly) Kettenbeil of Waterford, MI, and their sons Christian, Michael, and Nickolas.Barbara is also survived by one paternal uncle, Zane (Kakky) Kettenbeil of Lake Linden, and their daughter, Judith, of Chicago and four maternal aunts: Gladys Marggie, Agnes Breitzman, and Sister Joan Fisher C.S.A., all of Fond du Lac, WI, and her godmother, Harriet Weisenberger of Westminster, CA, as well as numerous cousins. Sister Beatrice Lindsay of Fond du Lac was an "honorary" aunt and dear friend.Barbara's friends are too numerous to mention, but most outstanding among them are her faithful companion of more than thirty years, Scott Bennetts of Calumet, and her dear buddy, David Mikkola of Hancock.The family extends their gratitude and thanks to the staff at Portage Pointe for the loving and exceptional care they gave Barbara over the year and a half she spent there. Appreciation is also extended to Doctors Anderson, Kinzel, and Dinsmore.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2009, at Church of the Resurrection in Hancock, with Father Wayne Marcotte to officiate. Friends may call for one hour prior to services at the church and from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening, November 5, at the Memorial Chapel in Hancock. A parish prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mt.
