Suo District
Barbara M. Mattila, 82, a resident of the Suo District, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2026, at the Canal View-Houghton County, following a short illness surrounded by her family. Barbara will be remembered fondly by the many people she helped along the way. She was an extraordinary caregiver and had a heart of gold.
A funeral service will be held at the Tapiola Apostolic Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 16. Visitation is at 11 AM and the service begins at noon.
Barbara is survived by several sisters and brothers; Shirley (Roger) Johnson, Robert Mattila, Carol (Gary) Johnson, Virginia (Paul) Louma, Vivien (Jon) Grischke, Ruth (Tom) Mackrain, Michael (Vicky) Mattila, Vicky Kline, Laura (Sam) Kristoff.
The family whom left before her; Parents James and Bertha Mattila, Sr., Brother James, sister-in-law Karen, Brother-in-law John Keranen, Sister-in-law Betty Mattila, Brother Carl Mattila, Sister Violet and Brother-in-law Jim Medhurst, and Brother-in-law Kenny Kline.
She left behind special friends Bridget Becker and her son William, as well as several nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends who knew and loved her.
The Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
