Barbara Olson-Hogback

Obituary of Barbara Olson-Hogback Hancock Barbara E. Olson-Hogback, 69, a resident of Hancock passed away Tuesday evening December 28, 2010, at the Franklin House of Portage Pointe in Hancock following a lengthy illness. She was born on January 1, 1941, in Hancock, a daughter of the late Emil and Ellen (Marttila) Hyttinen. Barbara was raised in Redridge. She attended the Redridge School and was a graduate of the Houghton High School with the class of 1959. Following high school, she moved to Sacramento, CA, where she was united in marriage to Irving Olson in 1960. The couple remained in Sacramento until returning to Hancock in 1973. Irving preceded Barbara in death in 1973. In 1988, Barbara was united in marriage to Robert Hogback and he preceded her in death in 1998. Barbara was employed locally as an aide for the Ryan School and had worked for Little Zippers in Hancock. She then became a medical records clerk for Portage Hospital retiring in 1998. Mrs. Hogback was a member of S.S. Peter & Paul Lutheran Church of Houghton. She enjoyed bowling, cross country skiing, ice skating, dancing, spending time outdoors, especially by Lake Superior. She also enjoyed being with her family and attending her grandchildren's events. Preceding her in death were her husbands, her parents, and her sister Ruth LaCasse. Surviving are: Her children: Brenda (Duane) Puuri of Houghton Jay (Amy) Olson of Houghton Her grandchildren; Duane Irving "D.J." Puuri, Derek (Natalie) Puuri, Daryl Puuri, Ryan (Penny) Olson and Shaun Olson. Her great grandchildren; Sylas, Kaelyn, Kyler, Madison & Alyssa Her brother; Clyde (Joanne) Hyttinen of Redridge Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins Funeral services for Barbara will be held 1:30 pm Sunday January 2, 2011, at S.S. Peter & Paul Lutheran Church of Houghton with Rev. David Weber to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock.
