Obituary of Barbara Sarau Chassell Barbara J. Sarau, 78, a resident of Chassell passed away Friday evening October 5, 2012, at the Portage Hospital shortly after being admitted. She was born on January 19, 1934, in Joliet, IL, a daughter of the late Melvin and Elizabeth (Ostermeyer) Saggan. Barbara was raised in Blue Island, IL and attended Wilson Junior College. On March 14, 1959, she was united in marriage to Richard Sarau. The couple had resided in various parts of the United States and the world as Richard's job would call for them to move. In 1997, the couple retired and they made their home in Chassell. On February 4, 2009, Richard preceded Barbara in death. Mrs. Sarau was a member of Trillium Chapter #304 Order of the Eastern Star of Calumet. She enjoyed painting, spending time outdoors fishing, sitting by the lake and feeding the ducks. Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, and her brother Jack. Surviving are: Her children: Laura (Louis) Meyers of Gig Harbor, WA Richard (Kristy) Sarau of Lake City, MI Valerie Sarau of Chassell Kurt (Lisa) Sarau of DePere, WI Her grandchildren: Richard, Kathryn, William, Emma and Elizabella Her sister: Betsy (Glenn) Ladewig of Anchorage, AK Several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A private memorial service will take place at a later date at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Chassell with Rev. D.J. Rasner to officiate.
