Obituary of Beatrice Morin-Butina MRS HoughtonBeatrice Morin Butina, age 72, of Houghton, died Monday, June 9, 2014, after a lengthy illness. Bea was born November 24, 1941, in Elo, MI, to Arvid and Laila (Keranen) Maki. She was the youngest of three children. She graduated from Doelle High School in 1959. She later took classes at Suomi College. She married Joseph Morin on April 22, 1961. They resided in Dodgeville and went on to have five children. When she wasn't working as a homemaker, she was cheering on her children at their various sporting events. From the time her oldest child started playing to when her youngest child finished playing, she had spent nearly 20 years as a hockey mom. When her children got older, she began working outside of the home. She worked for a number of businesses in the area doing a variety of clerical and accounting work, including D&N Bank, Suomi College, and Edward Jones. She also served as Portage Township Treasurer for a short time. She stressed the importance of education to her children, and she was proud of the fact that they all graduated from college.In 1996 her husband Joe passed away suddenly. She married Steve Butina on July 24, 1999. Bea was very active and she always kept herself busy. She enjoyed bowling, traveling, gardening, dancing at the Eagles, and watching sports on TV with Steve, especially the Tigers, Red Wings, Lions (Bea) and Packers (Steve). Bea also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, and she traveled frequently to visit them. Bea had many good friends in the area. She was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Parish in Houghton.Bea was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Joe Morin, her brother Donald Maki, and a grandson Kyle Ardini. She is survived by her husband Steve; sister Nancy (Tom) Wiinamaki of Swartz Creek; son Michael (Vicki) of Marquette and granddaughter Chelsea; daughter Michele (Peter) Ardini of De Pere, WI, and grandson Ryan; son Mark (Donna) of Franklin, TN, and grandson Calder; son Marty (Lisa) of Mt. Horeb, WI, and granddaughters Shayla and Jacey; daughter Melissa (Steve) Grenier of Green Bay, WI, and granddaughter Rhiannon. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.A Funeral Mass of Bea will be held 11 am Friday June 13, 2014, at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church of Houghton with Fr. John Martignon to officiate.
