Obituary of Bertha Emelia Luusua Snake River Hill Bertha E. Luusua, 92, a resident of Snake River Hill, passed away suddenly Thursday evening June 13, 2013, in Noblesville, Indiana, while on a family trip. She was born on January 28, 1921, in Marquette, MI, a daughter of the late Hjalmer and Hannah (Antilla) Tyrvainen. Bertha was raised in Stonington, MI, where she attended the Stonington School. As a young adult, she moved to Marquette where she worked as a cook and maid for Bart Thibdeau's Boarding House. On June 22, 1940, she was united in marriage to William Luusua. The couple first resided at the Dandelion Cottage in Marquette and since 1945 have made their home in Snake River Hill. In 1991, William preceded her in death. Mrs. Luusua was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. She was an artistic creative person who loved to bake many treats for her family and friends. She was a wonderful seamstress remaking many clothes over the years. She also enjoyed working with different crafts, working in her garden, picking berries, and following the Detroit Tigers. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, her grandson Michael Lahti, her brothers; Bill, Donald, Einer and Edwin and her sisters: Saimi Riihimaki, Violet Tullila, Ann Makela, Helen Thrall and Sadie Dahm. Surviving are: Her children: Marie (David) Saunders of Snake River Hill Betty (George) Uuro of Snake River Hill Gloria (Walter) Kanerva of Gladstone, MI Don (Sue) Luusua of Wilson, MI Carol (Jeff) Warning of Noblesville, IN Janet (Ted) France of Midland, MI 26 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins Funeral Services for Bertha will be held 1pm Monday June 24, 2013 at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell with Rev. DJ Rasner to officiate. Burial will be in the Chassell Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday June 24, 2013 from11 am until time of services at the church. Bertha was a firm believer that her longevity was due in part to her hard working life. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials be given to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in memory of Bertha Luusua.
