Obituary of Bertha McCullough Houghton Bertha V. McCullough, 92, a former resident of Dollar Bay and Arbor Green, Houghton, passed away Tuesday April 24, 2007, at the Omega House in Houghton where she had been a resident patient for the past month. She was born on October 22, 1914, in Mohawk, a daughter of the late Karl and Elizabeth (Manninen) Juntunen. As a child she moved to Dollar Bay with her family and attended the Dollar Bay School. During World War II she moved the Detroit area for several years. She moved back to the Copper Country in 1946 first residing in Dollar Bay and then becoming one of the first residents of Arbor Green in Houghton. Bertha had worked for the Osceola Township water department, been a private House keeper, and retired from Superior Sausage Company after 13 years of work. Mrs. McCullough was a member of First Lutheran Church of Dollar Bay and more recently a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock, where she was active with the Quilters of the church, and bible study groups. Bertha loved to spend time and travel with her family, she was an avid sports fan following the Michigan Tech teams faithfully. Preceding her in death were her parents 2 brothers: Urho Juntunen, Karl Juntunen Jr.; 2 Sisters Martha Rivest and Elsie Juntunen. Surviving are: Her Children: Dr. Dennis (Pamela Harrison) McCullough of Norwich, VT Maureen Dolan of Michigan City, Ind. 4 Grandchildren: Sherri Edwards, Robert Bezotte, Colleen Greiner, and Katherine McCullough-Newby; 9 Great Grandchildren 1 Sister: Mary Rajala of Chassell Numerous nieces and nephews Funeral services for Bertha will be held 11 a.m. Saturday April 28, 2007, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock with Rev. Jimalee Jones to officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton. Friends may call on Saturday April 28, 2007, from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials be given to the Omega House or Keweenaw Home Nursing & Hospice.
