Obituary of Betty Harry Atlantic Mine Betty J. Harry, 70, a resident of Atlantic Mine passed away Monday morning, February 21, 2011, at the Marquette General Hospital following a short illness. She was born on April 30, 1940 in Chassell Township, a daughter of Mamie "Mae" (Strong) and the late Wilfred Marcotte. As a child, Betty resided in Chassell, Houghton, Trimountain and Hancock. She attended Adams Township and Hancock Schools. She obtained her GED in 1969 from Jeffers High School. On November 4, 1958, she was united in marriage to Richard J. Harry. The couple resided in Hancock and in 1964 moved to Atlantic Mine to make their home. Betty had worked at the Tee Pee Restaurant, Neil's Taxi Cab as a dispatcher, and H & R Block before becoming a Volunteer Coordinator for the Department of Human Services in Hancock, from which she retired after 19 years of service. Betty was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Atlantic Mine. She was active with the Bethany Circle and Council of the church. She was also a Den Mother for the Boy Scout Troop 241, volunteered with Bowl for Kids, the Salvation Army, served on the Adams Township Election Board, and was on the board of directors for Community Action. Betty loved spending time with her family and enjoyed cooking and baking. She opened her heart and her home to many people throughout her life Preceding her in death were her father, her sister, Phyllis Marlene Strong and her brother , Dennis Marcotte. Surviving are her husband, her sons Richard (Karen Fisk) Harry Jr. of Marquette, Anthony (Pam) Harry of Marquette, Christopher (Laura) Harry of Atlantic Mine, Gerald Harry of Hancock, Jeffrey (Jeannie) Harry of Marquette, and a daughter Angela (Joshua Smith)Harry of Marquette. Her grandchildren, Kathy Jo, John, Richard, Melissa, Justin, Anthony Jr., Jessica, Shawn, Christopher, Danielle, Alan, Robert, Michaela and Ashley and 9 great-grandchildren. Her mother, a resident patient at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility of Hancock, Her brothers, Robert "Butch" Marcotte of Hancock, Howard Marcotte of Milwaukee, WI and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services for Betty will be held at 12 noon, Friday, February 25, 2011 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Atlantic Mine with Rev. Ron Strobel to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock. Friends may call on Friday, February 25, 2011, from 10am until the time of the services at the church.
