Obituary of Betty Mae Moskwa Ontonagon Betty (Johnson)Moskwa of Ontonagon passed away Thursday afternoon, February 23, 2006, with her family present at the Ontonagon Memorial Hospital's Long Term Care Unit. Betty was born May 10, 1928, in Matchwood, Michigan, daughter of the late Lorena (Lowe)and Don Johnson Sr. Betty and her family also resided in Bruce Crossing and Ewen, Michigan. Betty graduated from Ewen High School with the Class of 1945. Following high school, Betty attended Green Bay Badger Business College from 1947 to 1949 with a stenographer/secretarial degree. She was then employed by the U.S. Government as a secretary to the Commanding Office, Military Intelligence Service Group, Far East, working in Tokyo, Japan until 1952. Upon her return home to Michigan, Betty was employed at White Pine Copper Company. There she met her husband of 51+years, Joseph S. Moskwa. On May 8, 1954, they were married at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ewen, Michigan. Betty and Joe resided in Negaunee and L'Anse before returning to Ontonagon in 1960, where they have lived since. For many years, Betty provided for her family as wife and mother, running her household of six children with love and order. In 1976, Betty was employed by the County of Ontonagon in the Friend of the Court's Office, where she worked until her retirement in 1991. Betty was a devote member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Ontonagon, the Altar Guild of the Church, the Ontonagon County Historical Society, and the Ladies Auxiliary #5600 of the V.F.W. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Joseph S. Moskwa of Ontonagon and her six children: Steven (Patti Ann) of Mackinac Island, Michigan; James of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Debra Martin of Three Rivers, Michigan; Richard of Red Wing, Minnesota; Linda (Paul Hartlieb) of Dewitt, Michigan; and Daniel (Amy) of Goffstown, New Hampshire; eight cherished grandchildren: Justin, Aaron, Gabriele, Whitney, Zachary, Jacob, Zoe, Sayre; three siblings: Don (Jane) Johnson Jr. of Bruce Crossing, Michigan; Ruth (Albert) Niemi of Maupin, Oregon; Roberta (Edward) Daniels of Bruce Crossing, Michigan; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, February 28th at Holy Family Catholic Church in Ontonagon. The family will receive relatives and friends Monday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Church with rosary at 7:00 p.m. Guests will also be welcome Tuesday morning at the Church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with Mass commencing at 11:00. Luncheon will be served following the Mass in the Parish Hall. Pallbearers will be Justin and Aaron Martin, Zachary and Jacob Moskwa, David Johnson, and Brian Daniels. Burial will be in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in the spring. The Memorial Chapel Funeral Homes of Hancock and Chassell are serving the family.
