Obituary of Betty White-Peryam Houghton Betty R. White-Peryam, 96, a former resident of the Arbor Green Senior Living Community passed away Monday evening July 21, 2014, at the Medora House of Portage Pointe in Hancock where she had been a resident patient for the past two years. Betty was born in Houghton to the late Tom and Catherine Sullivan. She resided their until her parents' death in 1934, when they passed two weeks apart. She then went to live in Escanaba with her older sister Eileen Poynter. She attended the Escanaba Schools, graduating in 1937. She then moved back to the Houghton/Hancock area where she met and married John Peryam. After John's death in 1962, Betty met Arthur White and they married in 1964. Betty loved to cook and bake. She would often cook large meals along with her husband Art for special holidays and they both were involved with the Hancock Eagles, Betty being a Past President. She also was a great bowler winning many awards and recording a few 300 games. She taught Sunday School at the First Methodist Church in Hancock, under the direction of Marg Hoppala. When John Peryam died, she went to work at Soumi College (Finlandia University), where she ran the Coffee Nook for several years. She also took over as Manager of the Milwaukee Sentinel in the area making sure that 3,000 papers were delivered. She even delivered papers on the day of John Peryam's funeral in February of 1962. Preceding Betty in death were her husbands, John Peryam and Arthur White, her sons Ronnie Paul Peryam, Jack (John) Peryam, her sisters Mildred Rice, Leona Hendrickson, Eileen Poynter, Lillian Tourville, and her brother Bill Sullivan and an infant great granddaughter Madison Bedore. Surviving are: Her sons: Donald (Pam) Peryam of Hancock Robert (Cynthia) Peryam of Jacksonville, FL Her grandchildren: Michelle Bedore, Ronald (Sarah) Peryam, Christopher (Kelly) Peryam, & Aimee (Tom) Romps, Alison & Kelsey Peryam. 11 great grandchildren and a special daughter, Nieces & Nephews A Mass of Christian Burial for Betty will be held 10 am Saturday July 26, 2014, at Church of the Resurrection in Hancock with Rev. Fr. William Ssozi to celebrate. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton. Friends may call on Friday July 25, 2014, from 5 to 7 pm at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock where a parish prayer service will be held at 7 pm.
