Betty J. Witt, a resident of Hancock, passed away Friday, April 24, 2026, at the Pewabic House of Portage Pointe in Hancock, where she had been a resident patient for the past two months.

Betty was born on February 8, 1933, in Dassell, MN to the late Albert and Jennie (Tormanen) Bollman. She was a graduate of Dassell High School with the class of 1950. Betty worked as a keyboard operator for the Great Lakes Naval Base. She was united in marriage to William Witt. He preceded her in death on January 3, 2020.

Betty and Bill resided in Zion, Illinois where they raised their family. They then moved to the Copper Country living in Chassell, Hancock, and Big Traverse, where she enjoyed spending time with her family and playing board games. They spent several winters travelling to Gulf Shores, AL and Florida.

She was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church.

Besides her parents and her husband, Betty was preceded in death by 3 children; Edward Witt, Katherine Tolkkinen and Jeffrey Witt, son-in-law Neil Daavittila, granddaughters, Ashley Skoog and Amanda Murray, her grandson: Eric Daavettila, great-granddaughters, Sophia Pietila and Lillie Pietila and grandson-in-law, Yuri Botelho.

She is survived by her children:

Cynthia (Timothy) Murray of Wadsworth, IL

Ruthann (Dave) Pietila of Brighton, MI

Sarah Witt of Littleton, CO

Thomas (Rachel) Witt of Scottsdale, AZ

Melissa (Kevin) Sliva of Littleton, CO

Betty is further survived by a half-brother, Jonny (Mary) Bollman, son-in-law Brian Tolkkinen, 75 grandchildren and 179 great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in faith.

A funeral service for Betty will take place at 1:00pm, Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Houghton with Pastor Mark Halonen to officiate. Burial will be held in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock later this spring.

Friends may call on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from 11am until time of services at the church.
