Obituary of C. Steinmetz Houghton Eva C. Steinmetz, 100, a former resident of Houghton passed away Saturday afternoon September 10, 2011, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where she had been a resident patient for the past year and a half. She was born on December 17, 1910, in Houghton a daughter of the late John and Catherine (Schaff) Manderfield. Eva was a graduate of the Houghton High School with the class of 1928. On September 22, 1936, she was united in marriage to Anton Steinmetz and he preceded her in death on November 17, 1964. Eva was employed in the office with Roach & Seeber in Houghton and then with the Western UP Health Department, where she retired from in 1976 as a payroll clerk. Mrs. Steinmetz was a faithful active member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church of Houghton for 100 years, where she helped with the Altar Society, the Houghton Deanery. She also belonged to the NCS Foresters Council of Catholic Women and the Portage Lake Senior Citizens. She enjoyed spending time at church, playing cards and sewing. Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, her sister Lucille Lentz, and her brothers; Edmund, Martin, Servie, John, & Francis. Surviving are: Her children: Martin (JoAnn) Steinmetz of South Range Beth (James) Zerbst of Hurontown Her nephew who she raised from a infant: Michael Manderfield of Atlantic Mine Her grandchildren: Gina, Todd, Lorrie, David, & Daniel 6 great grandchildren Her brothers: Fr. Paul Manderfield of Nicaragua David (Bette) Manderfield of Royal Oak, MI Her sister: Gertrude Sherbarth of Petoskey, MI Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins A Mass of Christian Burial for Eva will be held 11 am Wednesday September 14, 2011, at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church of Houghton with Frs. Paul Manderfield and Corbin Eddy to celebrate. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton.
