Obituary of Carl Olson Painesdale Carl B. Olson, 81, a former resident of Painesdale passed away Friday afternoon November 4, 2011, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where he had been a resident patient for the past two years. He was born on September 9, 1930, in Hancock a son of the late Carl B. and Olga (Heitala) Olson. Carl was a graduate of the Hancock High School. Mr. Olson was a veteran having served with the United States Army in Panama during the Korean War. On June 9, 1956, he was united in marriage to the former Ethel Huuki and on June 17, 2011, she preceded him in death. The coupled had resided in Detroit and Painesdale for over 46 years. More recently, they had resided in Mohawk, the Apostolic Home of the Aged in Calumet, Heritage Manor in Houghton and the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock for the past two years. Mr. Olson had worked for Burroughs Corp. in Detroit. He then moved back to the Copper Country and had worked for the Copper Country Dairy and then for the Paper Mill in Ontonagon until he became disabled during a work related accident. Carl was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Atlantic Mine. He enjoyed visiting with and telling stories with his many friends and acquaintances. He was an avid Ham Radio operator and belonged to ARRL. Preceding him in death were his wife Ethel, his children; Carl Olson, Keith Olson, and Deborah Ovist; his parents, his brother John and his sister-in-law Barb. Olson of Lake Linden Carry Olson of Ann Arbor Paula A. Olson of Chassell His son-in-law: Tim Ovist of South Range 42 grandchildren 23 great grandchildren His sister: Joan (Art) Lasanen of Big Traverse Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins Funeral services for Carl will be held 1 pm Monday November 7, 2011, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with David Taivalkoski to officiate. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock. Friends had called on Sunday November 6, 2011, from 4 to 8 pm at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock and on Monday November 7, 2011, from 12 noon until time of services at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton.
