Obituary of Carl Sakari HANCOCK Carl W. "Bill" Sakari, 81, of Hancock, died on Friday, July 28, 2010 at Portage Pointe in Hancock, following a lengthy illness. He was born on June 30, 1929, in Hancock, a son of the late Carl H. and Alma (Kuure) Sakari. He was a graduate of the Hancock High School with the class of 1947. Mr. Sakari was a veteran having served with the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Bill was united in marriage to Gloria Korpela on December 4, 1954, and she preceded him in death on July 16, 2010. Mr. Sakari was a local businessman for most of his lifetime, owning and operating gas stations in Houghton and the Dollar Bay IGA. Mr. Sakari was a member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church in Hancock. Preceding him in death were his wife Gloria, his parents, infant son Don, granddaughters Gina Lipka & Jodi Sakari, his sisters Helen Grosnick and Ruth Aldrich Surviving are: 4 sons; David (Kirsti) Sakari of Liminga Jim (Eve) Sakari of Marengo, WI Henry Sakari of Dollar Bay Duane Sakariof Baraga 3 daughters; June (Mike) Backman of Dollar Bay Phyllis (Dale) Anderson of Dollar Bay Lenell Lipka of Dollar Bay 21 grandchildren & 15 great grandchildren Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins Funeral services for Carl will be held 11 a.m., Friday, July 30, 2010 at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church in Hancock with Clarence Marttila to officiate.
