Obituary of Carl August Stromer Chassell Carl A. Stromer, 86, a resident of Lake Shore Dr., Chassell, and former Bootjack resident passed away Friday evening January 13, 2006, at the Portage Health Systems Hospital in Hancock where he had been a patient for over the past week. He was born on December 14, 1919, in Chassell a son of the late August and Selma (Olson) Stromer. As a child he resided in the Chassell area and was a graduate of the Chassell High School with the class of 1937. Carl was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Pacific during World War II. In February 3, 1945 he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal at the release of hundreds of prisoners of war at the Santo Tormas University in Manila. In 1948 Mr. Stromer joined the Michigan State Police. He served in the Bay City Post, Wakefield Post; in July of 1956 he was one of the original officers at the Calumet Post. After 25 years of service he retired in 1973 from the Battle Creek Post. During his retirement Carl has resided in Bootjack, Bay City, and in 2004 moved to Chassell. He was united in marriage to the former Catherine (Lejewski) and she preceded him in death in August of 2003. Also preceding him in death were: his parents, 1 Sister, & 3 Brothers. Surviving are: 15 Nieces 15 Nephews 3 Sister-in-laws Special Friends: Pat & Ed Chopp of Bootjack Vivian & Robert Holzberger of Bootjack Read Burgan of Bootjack The Manderfield Family of Hancock The Gagnon family of Chassell Private funeral services for Carl will be held on Wednesday January 18, 2006 at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Chassell with Read Burgan to speak. Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton. The Memorial Chapel Funeral home of Chassell has been assisting the family with the arrangements.
