Obituary of Cecelia Luttinen ChassellCecelia A. Luttinen, 96, a former resident of Chassell passed away Friday evening January 21, 2011, at the Winona House of PortagePointe, where she had been a resident patient for the past 4 years. She was born on November 15, 1914, in Jacobsville, a daughter of the late Matt and Mary (Asiala) Laajala. As a child, she moved to South Range, where she was a graduate of Jeffers High School with the class of 1933. Cecelia then lived in the Detroit area until moving to the Keweenaw Bay area for a short time. Since 1949, she had made her home in Chassell. On October 23, 1937, she was united in marriage to Uno Luttinen. He preceded her in death in 1967. Mrs. Luttinen had been employed with Vertin's Department Store as a sales clerk until her retirement. Cecelia was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell, where she was active with the Bethany Guild, Sunday School, and the quilters of the church. She was also a long time Girl Scout Leader and Day Camp & Camporee Leader. She was also a member of the Chassell Extension Club and Chassell Senior Citizens. Preceding her in death were her husband Uno, her parents, sisters Sigrid, Eleanor, Lillie & Josephine, her brothers William, Karl, Henry, Matt and her son-in-law Darrell Baker Jr. Surviving are: Her daughters: Mary Luttinen of Marquette Barbara (Gary) Worrall of Chassell Her grandchildren: Mary (Vince Leone) Worrall of East Lansing Mark (Tina) Worrall of Grand Rapids, MI Her great granddaughters: Cecelia Rose Leone & Ellison Worrall Her step-grandchildren: Darrell E. Baker III and Monique Baker of Sault Ste. Marie, Canada Robert (Julie) Baker of Gwinn, MI Jennifer (Douglas) Mannor of Gwinn, MI Nancy (Michael) Hares of Skandia, MI Her step-great-grandchildren: Caitlin, Darrell IV, Rebekah , Hunter, Kelli, Stepheniey, Magena, Brooke, Emily, Douglas, Dustin, Megan, Madeline, Sam, Lindsay, Andrew and Jacob Her step-great-great-grandchildren: Gabby, Adrianne & Jocelyn Several nieces, nephews and cousins Her faithful & loving neighbors, Jack & Bertha Rossberg and the Wes Lawrence Family Her goddaughter, Susan Rossberg of Colorado At PortagePointe, she spent her final years with two fellow workers from Vertins, Helen Westberg and Sylvia Pikkarainen. PortagePointe was truly a home for Cecelia. She enjoyed the company and the many activities and was a member of the Red Hat group. The care & compassion in each stage of her time there was filled with love from the staff and residents. The family appreciates it more than words can express. They feel they were so fortunate to have found such a gem of a home for their mother. Thank you to everyone there and to all who touched Ceceila with cards, photos, gifts, flowers, and visits. She loved you all. Services for Cecelia will be held 11 am Friday January 28, 2011, at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell with Rev. Ron Strobel to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock. Friends may call on Thursday January 27, 2011, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Chassell from 6 to 8 pm and on Friday January 28, from 10 am until time of services at the church.In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests that memorials be given to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or the Activity Fund of PortagePointe.
