Obituary of Charles Aho Chassell Charles P. Aho, 88, a former resident of Chassell passed away Tuesday August 6, 2013, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where he had been a resident patient for the past year. He was born on February 15, 1925, in Hancock, MI, a son of the late Edward and Saimi (Waisanen) Aho. Charles was a graduate of the Hancock High School and Michigan Technological University. Mr. Aho was a veteran having served with the United States Army. Following his service to his country, Charles graduated from Michigan Technological University with a Forestry degree. He then moved to Chicago, IL where he worked as a Forester for Common Wealth Edison, retiring after 30 years. In retirement, Charles moved to make his home in Chassell. On September 14, 1946, he was united in marriage to the former Dorothy Manuelson. On August 3, 2010, Dorothy preceded Charles in death. Mr. Aho was a very dedicated faithful member of Maranatha Free Lutheran Church of Chassell. He loved to spend time outdoors hiking and fishing. His love of fishing started at a young age where he would go fishing before school often enough, that he received the nickname Gulla. In his later years, he truly enjoyed taking fishing trips with his brother to Montana and Alaska. Preceding him in death were his wife and his parents. Surviving are: His son: Charles E. Aho of Mechanicsville, VA His brothers: Alfred (LaVerne) Aho of Chassell Douglas (Joan) Aho of Chattanooga, TN Several nieces, nephews, and cousins A memorial service for Charles will the held 11 am Saturday August 10, 2013, at the Maranatha Free Lutheran Church of Chassell with Pastor Darwin Cote to officiate. Burial will be at a later time in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock. Friends may call on Saturday August 10, 2013, from 10 am until time of services at the church. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials be given to Maranatha Free Lutheran church of Chassell in memory of Charles P. Aho.
