Obituary of Charles Hall HoughtonCharles M. Hall, 91, a resident of Houghton passed away on Friday June 1, 2012, at the Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium where he had been a patient for the past week. He was born on July 11, 1920, in Houghton, son of the late Will C. and Selina (Matthews) Hall. He was a graduate of Houghton High School, Suomi College Music Department, and attended the Sherwood School of Music in Chicago, IL.His public musical career began at the age of 4 1/2 appearing on the Michigan College of Mines Radio Station in Houghton as a boy soprano. In his teens he hosted his own piano radio show call "Musical Fingers" over Station WHDF located in Hancock. After Graduation from Suomi College and while attending college in Chicago, Mr. Hall auditioned for and signed a musical contract with the Atrium Lyceum Bureau touring the eastern and southern states in the Chattaqua Circuit starring with the musical group known as "The Sweethearts of Song."His professional career in music terminated because of family illnesses and circumstances. He moved back to the Copper Country and into business employment.He worked for the Atlas Powder Co., as Chief Clerk and Cashier, then as Office Manager for Vivian Equipment Corp. of Houghton; and lastly in the Superintendent's Office for Hancock Public Schools.He was united in Marriage to the "Love of his Life", Theresa M. Erbetta of Painesdale, MI in 1950.Charles was a member of the Painesdale United Methodist Church. He was active in the church, serving as Lay Leader, Choir Director, Organist and Vocal Soloist. In past years he served as Choir Director for the former St. Joseph's School of Nursing, Soloist and Organist at the Christian Science Church in Houghton, Soloist and Choir Director of Grace United Methodist Church in Houghton, and Organist and Choir Director for St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton. Preceding him in death were his wife, his parents, and twin grandchildren. He is survived by his son, William B. (Margo Perry) Hall of Houghton and Daughter, Dorothy T. (Bill) MacDonald of Stillwater, MN along with 7 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren.A Celebration of Charles' life will be held 11 am, Saturday June 9, 2012 at the Painesdale United Methodist Church, Painesdale, with Rev. Lillian Richards officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Hill cemetery of Houghton. Friends may call on Saturday June 9, 2012, from 10 am until time of services at the church.Memorials may be given to the Painesdale United Methodist Church in memorial of Charles M.
