Obituary of Charles Simonson Hancock Charles H. Simonson, 94, a resident of Hancock passed away at the Medora House of Portage Pointe where he had been a resident patient for the past five months. He was born on July 2, 1917, in Hancock, MI, a son of the late August and Sandra (Wilen) Simonson. Charles attended the Hancock Schools. Mr. Simonson was a veteran having served with the United States Army in Europe during World War II. On February 14, 1943, he was united in marriage to the former Lillian Simula, and on November 24, 2004, she preceded Charles in death. Mr. Simonson was employed as a clerk with the United States Postal Service in the Hancock office retiring in 1979. Mr. Simonson was a lifetime member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church. Preceding him in death were his wife, his parents, his brothers, Walfred, Eino, & John and his sisters: Anna Aili and Hilda Wantaja. Surviving are: His children: Clyde (Maryann) Simonson of Battle Ground, Washington Rebecca (Stan) Homola of Woodland, Washington Terry (Cindy) Simonson of Hancock Cora (James) Hammerstrom of Hancock Jill (Larry) Charlson of Hancock Faye (Rod) Uskoski of Kalispell, Montana Jayne Simonson of Hancock Ramon Simonson of Houghton Rita (Daniel) Stromer of Chassell George Simonson of Hancock 40 Grandchildren 158 Great Grandchildren His sisters: Effie Hallstrom of Marquette Lempi Hanson of Kalispell, Montana Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins Funeral services for Charles will be held 11 am Saturday October 22, 2011, at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church of Hancock with Ron Jouppe and Clarence Marttila to officiate. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery of Calumet, where the Copper Country Veterans Association will hold military rites. Friends may call on Friday October 21, 2011, from 5 to 8 pm at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church of Hancock and on Saturday from 10 am until time of services at the church.
