Obituary of Clayton Earl Frantti Chassell Clayton E. Frantti, 84, a resident of Marinette, St., Chassell, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2007, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where he had been a resident patient for over the past 2 months. He was born on June 26, 1922, in Chassell, a son of the late John and Florence (Hietala) Frantti. As a child he attended and graduated from the Chassell School with the class of 1941. On Nov. 20, 1943, Clayton was united in marriage to the former Mayme Hill in Detroit, and this past November they celebrated 63 years of marriage. Mr. Frantti was a veteran having served with the United States Army during World War II, where his was wounded in action in the Philippines for which he received the Purple Heart.. Clayton had first worked in Detroit for Cadillac Motor Company and after his service time locally he worked for Komula Sales & Service, Stevenson Chevrolet-Olds, and Meyer's Chevrolet-Olds in Hancock, with the parts department. He then worked for Michigan Technological University retiring in 1987 from their mailroom. Mr. Frantti was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell where he served a term on the church council. Clayton was a member of the V.F.W. Post # 6507 of Chassell, Dr. Percy H. Willson Chapter #115 D.A.V. of Chassell, and a charter member of the Copper Country Chapter #789 Military Order Purple Heart. He was a charter member of the Chassell Fire Department where he served for 36 years. During that time he served as Chief, Asst. Chief and also as Treasurer. Clayton served on the Chassell Township Board when they installed the first sewage treatment system for Chassell. He served on the inaugural board of The Chassell Township Public School Foundation, along with many other service organizations in and around the Chassell area. Polka music brought great joy to Clayton's life. He and Mayme were regular attendees at the Eagles dances on Sunday evenings and traveled to many polka fests. He cherished his many friends from near and far and, before illness changed his life, enjoyed keeping in contact with them. Preceding him in death were his parents, and a brother George Hietala. Surviving are: His wife: Mayme of Chassell His daughters: Mary (Martin) Jurgensen of Chassell Carol (Dale) Karpp of Clearwater, FL A sister: Ruth (Ernest) Mattson of Jacksonville, FL Step-grandchildren: Eric, Laura, & Garth Jurgensen Step-great grandchildren: Leif and Brooke Jurgensn Sisters-in-law & Brother-in-law: Minerva Hietala, Helen Westberg, Elvi (Rafael) Saviniemi and Gloria Engle, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Funeral services for Clayton will be held 11A.M. Monday February 26, 2007, at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell, with Rev. Ted Koehl to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Chassell Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, February 25, 2007, in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Chassell from 3 to 7 P.M. where V.F.W. Post #6507, D.A.V. Chapter #115 and M.O.P.H. Chapter #789, will hold joint military rituals at 6:30 p.m. and on Monday from 10 A.M. until time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials may be given the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell at 42905 Willson Memorial Dr, Chassell, MI 49916, or The Chassell Township Public School Foundation at P.O.
