Obituary of Clyde Milton Berryman Chassell Clyde M. "Crusher" Berryman, 83, a resident of Chassell passed away Monday morning June 20, 2011, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock following a lengthy illness. He was born on May 15, 1928, in Laurium, MI, a son of the late Roy and Ruth (Munch) Berryman. As a child, he attended the Calumet Schools. Mr. Berryman was a veteran having served with the United States Army during World War II. On June 7, 1952, he was united in marriage to the former Lois Schultz, together the couple resided in Laurium and since 1975 had made their home in Chassell. They had many great years going for trips on their boat and fishing together. Lois preceded Clyde in death in 2003. Clyde had worked on the Great Lakes, was a Police Officer with the Laurium Police Department and the Houghton County Sheriff's Department, had been a contracted driver to deliver the Milwaukee Journal, and driven bus for the Chassell Township Schools. Clyde enjoyed spending time and helping children, he spent many summers working on the baseball fields and winter caring for the Laurium Ice rink. It was nothing for him to load up with his son and a few other children and go the Packer game in Green Bay. Growing up Clyde enjoyed playing hockey as a goalie. Preceding him in death were his wife Lois, his son Michael, his parents, his sisters, Emily, Fern, & June and his brothers Harold and Robert. Surviving are: his daughters: Kathy (Dan) Teter of Chassell Susan (Glenn Leinonen) Berryman of Chassell 6 grandsons, 1 granddaughter and 1 great granddaughter His brothers: Gordon (Sharon) Berryman of Hancock Ronald (Donna) Berryman of Flint His sisters: Faye Berryman of Calumet Barbara Nissen of Ontonagon Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins A private service for Clyde will be held at a later date at the Chassell cemetery with the Copper Country Veterans to hold Military Honors.
