Obituary of Daniel Cooney HoughtonDaniel Richard Cooney, 68, loving grandfather of Ryan, Steven and Madeline, passed away October 31, 2011 at home. He will reunite with his three beautiful sisters who died too soon from the same illness. Dan was born on March 9, 1943 and was raised in Hurontown, lived in Stanton Township and Green Bay for a time, and was currently living in Houghton with wife, Sandy.Dan was a retired barber and past member of the Michigan State Barber Board. He was a long time promoter of the City of Houghton and Michigan Technological University. His passions were his family, his work and his game of golf. He touched many lives and had many visitors during his final days, some who travelled great distances. They spent many enjoyable hours telling old jokes and favorite stories. He is survived by wife, Sandy; three sons, Scott and his wife Francie of Chesapeake Virginia, Ross and his wife Amanda of Houghton, and Christopher of Houghton; brother, Ross, of Green Bay; three grandchildren, Ryan and Steven of Chesapeake Virginia, and Madeline of Houghton; Aunt Helen Rickard of Farmington, several cousins, nieces, nephews, a wonderful extended family, groups of friends, and "golfing buddies".He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Dolly Cooney, and sisters, Luella Latvis, Kathy Mattson, and Carrie Marttila.The family will receive relatives and friends at St Ignatius Church in Houghton from 4 to 7 pm on Thursday, November 3rd and one hour prior to a memorial mass which will be held at the church at 11 am on Friday, November 4th, Fr. John Martignon to celebrate.Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice or to St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 Arrangements entrusted to Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock.
