Obituary of David Walter Haapapuro Liminga David W. Haapapuro went to meet his Lord and Savior on Friday morning, November 25, 2011, at Marquette General Hospital at the age of 65. David was born July 16, 1946 in Hancock, MI, the oldest child of Walter and Miriam Haapapuro. He attended the Redridge School and graduated from Jeffers High School. In June of 1969 he graduated with honors from Michigan Technological University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He started work with Reserve Mining Company in Silver Bay, MN shortly after graduation. In August of 1969 he married Joanne (Heltunen), and they resided in Silver Bay, MN for seventeen years. All three of their children were born there. In the course of his engineering career the family lived in: (1969) Silver Bay, MN, where he worked as a Senior Mechanical Engineer for Reserve Mining Co.; (1986) South Bend, IN, where he worked as the Director of Mechanical Engineering for Health Quest Corp.; (1988) Flint, MI, where he worked as the Mechanical Engineering Dept. Manager for SSOE, Inc.; and (1996) Saginaw, MI, where Dave was a Senior Energy Engineer for Dow Corning Corp. Dave retired from Dow Corning Corporation, Midland, MI, and he and Joanne moved to Liminga, MI. They enjoyed 16 months of retirement before amyloidosis took his life. Dave is survived by his wife of 42 years, Joanne, their three children and three grandchildren: daughter, Jessica Haapapuro and grandchildren, Kiirsti and Erik Jamison; son, Matthew (Kathryn) and granddaughter, Khloe; and daughter , Melissa Haapapuro. Dave is also survived by his mother, Miriam, of Cypress Manor; his brother , Jim (Mary) and their sons , Walt (Marni)and their daughters, Erica and Jenna; and Joe; and brother, Gerald. Survivors also include his sister-in-law, Judy Sharrar; niece, Sarah (Bill) Johnson and their son, Isaac. Also former son-in-law, Dan Jamison. Dave has many friends and relatives within the Houghton County area as well as many friends in his previous work locations. David was preceded in death by his brother, Joe ,in 1964 and his father, Walter, in 1969. Dave was so happy to be retired back in his home area. He enjoyed driving his tractors on the family property, playing guitar and singing on the praise team at church and participating in various local jam sessions, and spending time with family and friends. A memorial service will be held at Houghton Baptist Church on Friday December 2nd at 11:00 AM. The family will greet relatives and friends at 10:00 AM. A lunch will follow in the fellowship hall. A private burial will be held at the Liminga cemetery in the spring.
