Obituary of David James Joyal Point Mills David J. Joyal, 73, a resident of Point Mills, passed away peacefully at his home Thursday October 18, 2007. He was born on October 7, 1934, in Point Mills, a son of the late William and Hilja (Leskinen) Joyal. Dave attended and graduated from the Dollar Bay High School with the class of 1953. Mr. Joyal was a veteran having served with the United States Army. On June 13, 1959, he was untied in marriage to the former Carol Lassila at the First Lutheran Church of Dollar Bay. Dave had worked for the Copper Country Dairy, C & H Copper Mine, VanEss Gas Line, and then as a carpenter for Cap Homes, Yalmer Mattila Contracting, and Anderson & Jarvi Contracting, retiring in 1996. He was very active with local baseball leagues, first with the Dollar Bay Little League and then with the Portage Lake Little League, where he was a past president of the board. He managed Partanen's Bar baseball team in the Twilight League baseball and was a umpire for many years in the Twilight League baseball. Dave was also very active with the Copper Country Pool League where he was a past president of the league. Preceding him in death were his parents, his sister Joyce Joyal and stillborn brother. Funeral services for Dave will be held 8 p.m. Monday October 22, 2007, in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock.
