Tapiola David M. Tuohimaa, 76, of Tapiola, passed away at his home on Friday, December 18th, 2020. He was born in Trimountain, MI on March 10, 1944 to Henry and Hilda (Heikkinen) Tuohimaa and attended Doelle Schools. On June 15, 1963 he married Pauline C. Ruotsi in Chassell, and they resided in Tapiola. David worked as a welder for Manninens Welding; was a self-employed logger and later as a welder for Selkeys Manufacturing. He was a talented welder who helped fabricate water tanks with storage compartments for the Otter Lake and Hurontown Fire Department tanker trucks. As well as being called upon to design and fabricate numerous sauna stoves. David was a founding member of the Otter Lake Sportsmans Club and a volunteer fire fighter with the Otter Lake Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and fabricating and repairing anything that needed welding. In his retirement he enjoyed reading, fishing for brook trout in the Otter River and riding around the property on his ATV. Surviving are his wife, Pauline of Tapiola; daughter, Coreen (James) Dompier of Keweenay Bay; son, Keith (Kristine) Tuohimaa of Tapiola; daughter, Connie Tuohimaa, of Tapiola; 6 grandchildren: Jodie Dompier, Faye Dompier, Jamie Dompier, Jake Tuohimaa, Senia Tuohimaa, and Grady Dillman; 2 great-grandchildren: Anja and Samara Pyhtila; brother, John Tuohimaa of Beulah, MI; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. David was proceeded in death by his brother and sister-in-law Robert and Marie Tuohimaa; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lorraine and Waino Kommes, and Sylvia and Arnold Pesola. The family would sincerely like to thank the Otter Lake First Responders and Mercy Ambulance. A graveside service for David will be held 11am, Saturday, June 26, 2021 in the Elo Cemetery.
