Dennis Myllyoja

April 1, 1961 — January 2, 2007

Obituary of Dennis Martin Myllyoja Point Mills Dennis Martin Myllyoja, 45, walked on to eternal life on January 2, 2007. He was born on April 1, 1961 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Hancock, a son of the late Martin and Marlene (Waara) Myllyoja. Dennis attended Hancock Public Schools and graduated from Dollar Bay High School with the class of 1980. He was a small but swift hockey player and at the age of 15 Dennis received letters of interest from the National Hockey League's Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jets but was denied because he was too small. Dennis worked at numerous businesses in the area including logging, lumberyards and hardware stores. At the age of 28 Dennis suffered a massive brain aneurysm caused by a virus that attacked his heart muscle and was paralyzed on one side but although he never returned to work, he fought back and regained himself. He was a mentor to a Dollar Bay High School student in the 80's and that friendship lasted a lifetime. He was also known, to many for years playing guitar in local bands. Dennis loved anything to do with the outdoors, rock collecting, ice fishing on Keweenaw Bay, hunting, motorcycles, old snowmobiles, exploring and encouraging others to keep in touch with nature. He was a kind and giving person who would go out of his way to help someone, not ever showing his own illness. He was proud of his son Joe and daughter Kelly and was a proud grandfather and loved to spend time with his grandson Bradley Myllyoja. On February 3, 2001, he was united in marriage to his loving wife Vickie (Granroth) and resided in their home in Point Mills. Dennis was also proud of his two step-sons, Coalton and Cody Campioni. Surviving are: His wife Vickie Step-sons Coalton Campioni, a soldier in the U.S. Army Cody Campioni, a U.S. Marine recruit A son, Joe (Sara) Myllyoja and grandson Bradley of Dollar Bay A daughter, Kelly Myllyoja of Rhinelander, WI Brothers, Mark (Patty) and niece Molly Myllyoja of Lower Point Mills Rd., Mike Myllyoja of Houghton, Tim Myllyoja of Leverling, MI, and Marty Myllyoja of Dollar Bay.
