Obituary of Donald Joseph Fisher Hancock Donald Fisher was born on August 10, 1939, in Hancock, MI, a son of Joseph and Winifred "Sis" (Landry) Fisher. His family lost their best friend and family patriarch Wednesday morning November 5, 2014, in Wausau, WI, following a brief illness. Don graduated from the Hancock High School and Brown Institute of Broadcasting, and served with the National Guard for six years. He worked for WHDF & WMPL before beginning a career that spanned 40 years helping to guide Vollwerth's Sausage Company. He was very proud of the fact that during that time he had five different generations of his family work for the company. He was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church of Houghton. He was a former Chairman of the Board for Superior National Bank and Trust. Don was very active in the community with various groups and organizations such as the Hancock Lions Club, Miscowaubik Club along with a longtime supporter of Michigan Tech Athletics. On September 7, 1963, he was united in marriage to the former Barbara Hawke. The couple resided in Hancock and raised three children Debbie (Kevin) Hutek of Holland, MI and their children Tyler and Lucas, Dr. Ron (Beth) Fisher of Chassell and their daughter Emily, Gregg (Sharon) Fisher of Chassell and their sons Tony and Alec. Also surviving is his sister Lois Ling and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Mass of Christian burial for Don will be held 11 am Saturday November 8, 2014, at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church of Houghton with Fr. John Martignon to celebrate. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday November 8, 2014, from 9 am until time of services at the church.
