Donald Jaakkola

Obituary of Donald Hubert Jaakkola Chassell Donald H. Jaakkola, 68, a resident of Wilson Memorial Drive, (Old U.S. 41) Chassell, was pronounced dead on arrival from an apparent heart attack on Monday January 23, 2006 at the Keweenaw Memorial Medical Center in Laurium. He was born on September 25, 1937, in Franklin Mine, a son of the late Hubert and Meimi (Sormunen) Jaakkola, and with his parents moved to Chassell at a young age. He graduated from the Chassell High School with the Class of 1956, and was a member of the Chassell High School Basketball Team, that won one of their Class D Sate Championships. Mr. Jaakkola had worked as a carpenter in the Detroit area until moving back to Chassell in 1994. Mr. Jaakkola was a veteran having served with the U.S. Navy. He was also a very avid golfer. Having belonged to the Wyandotte Hills Men's League where he was currently serving as vice president. He was also a member of the Chassell V.F.W. Post #6507, the Otter Lake Sportsmen's Club, and the Carpenters Union. Ted Koehl to officiate. Friends may call from 6 to 8 P.M. on Thursday in The Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Chassell, where V.F.W. Post #6507 of Chassell will hold a memorial service at 7 P.M., & for 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
