Obituary of Donald C. Warner Houghton Donald C. Warner, 84, a resident of Heritage Manor in Houghton, passed away Friday June 15, 2007, at Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI, where he had been a resident patient for the past 3 weeks. He was born on November 3, 1922, in Detroit, a son of the late William and Lillian (Litzer) Warner. As a child Don worked at various farms before moving to the Upper Peninsula to work at the C.C. Camps. Mr. Warner was a veteran having served with the United States Army during World War II, in Pearl Harbor, New Guinea, and the Philippians. On September 1, 1945 he was united in marriage to the former Helen Mary Bernard, and she preceded him in death in 1987. Don had worked at National Twist Drill and other manufacturing companies while he resided in Lower Michigan. He moved to Toivola in 1970. Since that time he had owned and operated the Mosquito Inn in Toivola, operated his own cleaning business and sold real estate. Don loved baseball which he played into his 60's, while he worked in the C.C. Camps he toured the U.P. playing on different All-Star teams. Presently Don enjoyed golfing in the summer and was a member of the men's league at the Portage Lake Golf Course. During the winter Don was active bowling at the Copper Bowling in Ripley. Mr. Warner lived his life by the Golden Rule, do on to others as you would have them do on to you. Also preceding him in death where his 3 siblings, Francis, Alice, and Fredrick. Surviving are: His Son: Donald William Warner of Dryden, MI Fianc?e: Flora Kundsom of Houghton, MI Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. A celebration of Don's life will be held 7 p.m. Thursday June 21, 2007, in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Rev. John West to officiate. Friends may call on Thursday June 21, 2007, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hancock from 4 p.m. until time of services. The Copper Country Veteran's Association will hold Military Rites immediately following the memorial service Thursday evening at the Funeral Home.
