Obituary of Dora Ethel Gill Hancock Dora E. (George Sr.) Gill, 89, a resident of Ingot St., Hancock, passed away Wednesday evening January 17, 2007, at her home following a lengthy illness. She was born on October 11, 1917, in Ripley, a daughter of the late Edwin John and Harriet (Ivey) Semmens. As a child she attended the Ripley School. On January 20, 1940, she was united in marriage to George Gill and they would have celebrated 67 years of marriage together this year. Mrs. Gill was a member of First United Methodist of Hancock. Preceding her in death were her parents, 4 Brothers, Percy Sleeman, Tom Semmens, Bill Semmens, and Jack Semmens; and 5 In-laws: Mr. & Mrs. Robert Jarvis, Kay Semmes, Alfred Gill and Harold Gill. Surviving are: Her husband: George Gill of Hancock 1 Son; George (Judith) Gill of Hancock 1 Daughter: Sharon (Stephen) Kinkade of Beloit, WI 4 Grandchildren: Pamela (Bill Kovacs) Gill of Kentwood, MI Georgina (Michael) Chevalier of Gwinn Heather Kinkade of Beloit, WI Erin (Matt) Brandes of De Pere, WI 2 Sisters-in-law: Leona Sleeman a resident patient of Portage Pointe Mary Ann Semmens of South Range Several nieces, nephews, and cousins Funeral services for Dora will be held 1 P.M. Sunday January 21, 2007, in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Rev. James Rupert to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton. Friends may call on Saturday January 20, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock and on Sunday from 12 noon until time of the services. In lieu of flowers of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorial may be given to Keweenaw Home Nursing and Hospice in memory of Dora Gill.
