Obituary of Dora Lou Heikkinen Atlantic MineDora L. Heikkinen, 83, a resident of Atlantic Mine passed away early Saturday morning February 20, 2016, at UP Health System-Portage shortly after being admitted.She was born on February 1, 1933, in Saginaw, MI, a daughter of the late Dominic and Frieda (McMan) Chiarovano. Dora was a graduate of the Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw. She then had worked as a bookkeeper for the IRS and various companies.Dora was united in marriage to Harold Heikkinen. The couple had resided in the Green Bay area were Dora became an accountant. She had worked for various companies in the Green Bay area until moving to Atlantic Mine in 2000. She then became the bookkeeper for St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton, where she continued to worked until her retirement in 2014.Mrs. Heikkinen was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church of Houghton, the Daughters of Italy and the Society of Catholic Women. She was a Green Bay Packer fanatic and was a season ticket holder since 1998.Preceding her in death were her parents and a sister Patricia.Surviving are: Her husband: Harold Heikkinen of Atlantic MineHer sister: Norma Jean (David) Schultz of Houston, TXA special niece: Linda (Terry) Lajeunesse of Hurontown and their children, Jacob, Alice and SamanathaSeveral nieces, nephews and cousinsA memorial service for Dora will be held later this May, with burial in the veteran's section of the Atlantic Mine Cemetery.
