Obituary of Douglas Peter Solmonson Houghton Canal Douglas P. Solmonson, 75, a resident of Tear Lake Rd., Houghton Canal, passed away Sunday August 5, 2007, at the Portage Health Hospital where he has been a patient since this past Friday. He was born on August 9, 1931, in the Houghton Canal District a son of the late Waino and Vivian (Hietala) Solmonson. As a child he attended the Stanton Township Schools. Doug was one of the last Dairy Farmers in the Houghton Canal District. He had taken over his grandparents farm and also received the Master Farmer's Award for Houghton County. Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother Paul and a niece. Surviving are: His sister: Dorothy (Alden) Norkol of the Hancock Canal His Niece: Lisa (Steve) Graeik and their children Dylan & Shelby of Minnesota His Aunt: Ethel Johnson of Houghton A number of cousins, good neighbors, and friends A memorial service for Doug will be held 12 noon Thursday August 9, 2007, in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Rev. Jimalee Jones to officiate. Burial will be in the Oskar cemetery at a later time. Friends may call Thursday August 9, 2007, in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until time of services.
