Obituary of Dwayne Landen Chassell Dwayne Ernest Landen, beloved son, brother, father and friend passed away on Tuesday March 2nd, 2010 at the Marquette General Hospital. Dwayne was born on June 21, 1950, in Detroit to Ernest and Ruth (Kivari) Landen. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served as a jet engine mechanic during the Vietnam War. Dwayne spent 15 years in Chicago where he met and married Evelyn Seral. In addition to Evelyn's three children (Sarah, Naomi, and Aaron) Dwayne and Evie had one son, Elijah. After moving back to the UP in 1991, Dwayne took a job as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility, where he stayed for 14 years. Most recently, Dwayne enjoyed his job delivering newspapers for the Daily Mining Gazette. He was well loved by all the families on his route and in November 2009 was even named as their driver of the month. Dwayne was preceded in death by his wife and father. He is survived by his son Elijah (Bethany), his step children, Sarah, Naomi, & Aaron, his step grandson Elliot his mother Ruth Landen, brothers Dwight (Mary), Daniel (Lynn) and one sister Deborah (David) Butkovich. Dwayne also has four nephews, Dwight Jr., Derek, Benny, and Bradley; and two nieces, Kiira and Bethany, and numerous cousins and aunts. A memorial service for Dwayne will be held 1 pm Saturday March 6, 2010, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Richard Eskola to officiate. Friends may call on Saturday March 6, 2010, from 11 am until time of services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock. Copper Country Veterans Association will hold military rites following the memorial service Saturday.
