Obituary of Edna Rautiola Houghton Edna J. Rautiola, 91, a former resident of the Arbor Green Senior Living Community passed away Wednesday morning July 20, 2011, in the Woodland Haven wing of the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where she had been a resident patient for the past 3 years. She was born on June 22, 1920, in Alston, MI a daughter of the late Walerius and Emilia (Hakala) Kero. As a child, Edna attended the Alston School. For a short time she resided in the Detroit area. Edna moved to Mass City and in 1945 she was united in marriage to Laurie Rautiola, and in 1955 he preceded her in death. In 1957, she was united in marriage to Matt Rautiola and he preceded her in death in 1959. For the past 40 years Edna has made her home in the Houghton and Hancock area. Mrs. Rautiola had worked in the Food Service Department of Soumi College retiring in 1982. Edna was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton. Preceding her in death were her husbands, her parents, her sisters Elvie Rautiola, Viola Heikkinen, Lillian Ruohonen and her brothers Ralph Kero, Art Kero, and Byrnolf Kero. Surviving are: Her children: Francis (Bonnie) Rautiola of New Ipswich, NH Delmar (Ann) Rautiola of Atlantic Mine, MI Lynda (Kurt) Heinonen of Atlantic Mine, MI 27 grandchildren, 64 great grandchildren Her sisters: Ruth Rabbitt, Agnes Kantola, Alice Koski, Lois Kero, and Karen Stand all of lower Michigan Her brother: Bill Kero of Calumet. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins Funeral services for Edna will be held 11 am Friday July 22, 2011, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with Richard Eskola to officiate. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Greenland, MI. Friends may call on Thursday July 21, 2011, from 5 to 8 pm at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton and on Friday from 10 am until time of services at the church. Edna's family would like to thank the caring staff at Woodland Haven for the care given to Edna during her stay.
