Obituary of Edward Chiang Edward C. Chiang, 76, a resident of Houghton passed away suddenly at home Friday evening, September 18, 2009. He was born on July 4, 1933 in Shanghai, China, a son of the late Kein Chiang and Sheng-Wen Cheng. As a young adult, Edward immigrated to the United States to pursue his education. He received his Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University, and his Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from Kansas State University. He was a member of the ASME and the SAE International. On September 2, 1988 he was united in marriage to Myra (Wirtanen) Walman. Dr. Chiang worked for a short time in Columbus, Indiana before joining the faculty at Michigan Technological University where he taught for 30 years in the Mechanical Engineering Department, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Houghton Lions Club for many years and served as President for one term. Edward loved animals and supported the Copper Country Humane Society. In his retirement he also enjoyed keeping up with world news on his computer, especially in the areas of Taiwan and China. Edward was preceeded in death by his parents and his brother Richard. He is survived by his life partner of 24 years, Myra Walman of Houghton. Also surviving are his brothers Tom, Jack, and Robert, and sisters Yi-Jun and Hen-Jun, all of Taiwan. As well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service for Edward will be held at 11 am Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at Grace United Methodist Church of Houghton with Rev. David Goudie to officiate. Friends may call on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 from 10 am until time of services at the church.
