Obituary of Edward John Lauluma Chassell Edward J. Lauluma, 84, a resident of Lauluma Rd., Chassell passed away Monday afternoon November 28, 2005, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock, where he had been a resident patient for the past week. He was born on June 27, 1921, in Chassell, a son of the late Matt and Saima Mary (Lassila) Lauluma. As a child Ed attended the Snake River and Chassell Schools and has been a life long resident of Chassell.. On September 5, 1953 he was united in marriage to the former Elsie Tossava. Mr. Lauluma had worked in the woods, on his own farm and operated his own refrigeration repair business. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell. Ed's love of music and playing the fiddle brought him many opportunities in life. Locally he was well known while playing in several bands and for awhile having his own band called RFD North. Some of Mr. Lauluma's more memorable moments came when he performed on the T.V. Show Finland Calling, at the Calumet Theater with Garrison Kehler, and in both the State and Nations Capital's. The Highlight of his musical career came in 2001, when he was able to perform in Kaustinen, Finland, Europe's Music Capital at their Annual Folk Festival. In 2004 he was once again honored locally by being named Grand Marshall of the annual Heikinpaiva Festival in Hancock. Preceding him in death was 1 brother: Matt, and 3 Sisters: Sophie, Pearl, and Julia. Surviving are: His wife Elsie of Chassell 2 Sons: James (Christine) Lauluma of Chassell Daniel (Deborah) Lauluma of Gold Canyon, AZ 1 Daughter: Julie (James) Knight of Houghton 8 Grandchildren: Michele, Melanie, Jason, Joelle, Greta, Eric, Brandon, and Jordan 6 Great Grandchildren: Alyssa, Alexis, Alec, Julia, Kylee, Jonathan Several nieces, nephews, cousins, & relatives in Finland Funeral services for Ed will be held 11 A.M. this Friday December 2, 2005, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell, with Rev. Ted Koehl to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Chassell Cemetery. Friends may call at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Chassell on Thursday December 1, 2005, from 4 to 8 P.M. and on Friday at the church from 10 A. M. until time of services.
