Obituary of Edward Dyygo Luoma Hancock Edward D. Luoma, 93, a resident of lake View Manor, Hancock, passed away Thursday evening June 26, 2008, at his home following a short illness. He was born on July 24, 1914, in Hancock a son of the late John and Aliina (Wendell) Luoma. As a child he attended the Hancock Schools. He had also resided in Royal Oak, MI, South Gate, CA, Huntington Park, CA, Odessa, TX, and since 1990 made his home back in the Copper Country. Mr. Luoma was a veteran having served in the United States Army during World War II. On July 1, 1959, he was united in marriage to the former Helen Anderson and she preceded him in death in 1998. Ed had worked as a mechanic, locally for the City of Hancock and Houghton County Road Commission. Mr. Luoma was a member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock, Alfred Erickson Post #186 American Legion of Hancock and was a former member of the N.R.A. He was an avid follower of Hancock Bulldog sports especially hockey and football. Preceding him in death were his wife, his parents, 3 brothers, Waino, Bill, and Mike; his step-son Garnet Gunnari and his step-daughter: Marion Nordstrom. Surviving are: 2 sisters: Ina Luoma a resident patient at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock Martha Hakala of Hancock 3 step-children: Alfred (Arlene) Gunnari of Mohawk George Garrow of Ahmeek Kristine of Texas 13 step-grandchildren Numerous step-great grandchildren Funeral services for Ed will be held 11 a.m. Monday June 30, 2008, in the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock with Rev. Jimalee Jones to officiate. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock where Alfred Erickson Post #186 American Legion of Hancock will hold military rites. Friends may call on Sunday June 29, 2008, in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of services.
