Obituary of Edward R. Samuelson It is with great sadness that the family of Edward R. Samuelson announces his passing after a brief battle with cancer, on Friday, January 25, 2008 at the age of 75 years. Edward will be forever remembered and will live on through his loving wife of 49 years and best friend Betty and their precious children, Cindy (Bucky) Perala, Sandie Samuelson, Donna (Andy) Kemppainen, Todd Samuelson and Terry (Tom) Anderson. Also by his "Ma," Violet Morin, his sisters Bernice Maki, Joan (Mick) Flynn, brother Donald (Maureen) Morin, and long time, near and dear friend Ace Lucchesi. Edward will also be forever remembered by his sixteen grandchildren, Angie (Todd) Waked, Nicole (Tony) Maciejewski, Nathan (Rachel) Perala, Fred, Joe, Teri, and Betty Jaehnig, Ryan, Chris, and Jaron McIntyre, Jake and Hailey Kemppainen, Rachel and Becca Samuelson, and Mike and Jeff Anderson. Nine great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Ed's generosity and kind heart are an inspiration to his family and friends. He is a loving, supportive husband and devoted man to his entire family. He lives his life with love and integrity. He is a warm, caring, special person who always makes time for his family and friends. His actions always speak louder than his words. When Ed was not on the golf course shooting for another "hole-in-one" or bowling, he was busy working in his yard, woodshop, cooking, photography, computer and playing jokes on people he loved. Ed & Betty enjoyed traveling and their favorite place was anywhere they were together. His proudest accomplishment was his family. Ed was born on October 15, 1932 in Seeberville, MI and went on to graduate from Houghton High School. He was a veteran serving in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and a member of the Alfred Erickson Post #186 American Legion of Hancock, Ranges Post #6165 V.F.W of South Range. Ed enjoyed his 28-year career working for the local airline, retiring in 1986. He was also a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church of Houghton. Welcoming him into heaven will be his parents Godfrey and Rose Samuelson, his brother Godfrey Jr, his sister Rochelle, his grandson Jason, his father-in-law Fran Morin, his sister-in-law Bobbie Lucchesi and his brother-in-law Eddie Maki. A memorial mass for Ed will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 29 at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton with Fr. John Martignon officiating. Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton. Friends may call on Tuesday, January 29 at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton from 9:00 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests that memorial may be given to St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church of Houghton, Keweenaw Home Hospice or to Relay for Life.
